If you have expertise you'd like to offer as a course through SII, we'd love to hear from you. Or if there's a topic you'd like to see covered, let us know and we'll try to develop a new course along the lines you suggest. Just send us an e-mail providing the information requested below:

  1. Your name and contact information (if by phone, please include best times to call you):
  2. Title of your proposed course:
  3. Brief summary of course (along the lines of the catalog descriptions for current courses):
  4. Explanation of how this course fits within the framework of the "science integration" theme. [Please note that our courses focus specifically on helping participants use the process of science, and the insights gained about the universe by modern science, as tools to help them develop realistic and meaningful views of their role in the universe. Many presentations of science-related topics are interesting and valuable but may not fall within this specific scope of our programs. For more information about the context for our perspective on science education please visit the About Us section of our web site.]:
  5. If this is a course you are proposing to teach, please provide a summary of your qualifications:
  6. How many sessions are in your proposed course, and how long will each last? (1-4 sessions, 2 hrs. each, seems to work well):
  7. Where will your proposed course be held? (Be as specific as you can about your preference. In the Portland area, courses are generally at Portland State University or at the Capital Center in Beaverton. But if you have another suggestion, let us know and we'll try to arrange it.):
  8. Preferred times of year/days of week/times of day for this course:
  9. (If you are proposing to teach the course) Suggested financial arrangement: We generally charge participants $10 for each 2-hour session. In our standard contract with external instructors, revenue is split evenly between SII and the instructor after covering the cost of the classroom space (generally $0-$50 depending on the location). If you'd like a different arrangement, please describe your suggestion:
  10. If available, please attach a more detailed course description. Attachments may be sent in Appleworks format (any version), or in any platform-independent format (html, pdf, TeX, postscript, rtf, plain text, etc.). Use the "save as" menu in your word processor if you need to convert your file to one of these formats.

Food for thought:

"Regardless of different personal views about science, no credible understanding of the natural world or our human existence…can ignore the basic insights of theories as key as evolution, relativity, and quantum mechanics." - The Dalai Lama
